Who we are

Light House is a well reputed non-profit voluntary development organization working for the development of rural and urban asset less poor, marginalized and high risk population particularly the landless, homeless, sex worker, drug users both injecting and heroin smokers, men who have sex with men (MSM) and Hijra with transgender, distressed, school dropouts, child labor, Adibashi and other disadvantaged adults and children in Bangladesh.

It is a leading Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Bangladesh that was founded in 1988 following devastating and gigantic Flood. Feeling concern, a group of young and energetic men joined together to work for the flood victims. One of those members, Md Harun-or-Rashid is now the Chief Executive of Light House. Gradually it becomes able to achieve people’s trusteeship, transparency within the working areas keeping up better relationship with civil society, district and upazilla level administration and local government. At present, Light House is working in 23 districts of 5 divisions of Bangladesh.

House believes in making a difference through accountability, peace, harmony, gender equity & participation.

Light House has initiated a multi-dimensional project in Hard-to-Reach Areas of Rural Bangladesh with the financial support of well-known donors. The project is targeted to accelerate the achievement of the MDGs including SDGs as well as national target with respect to the access to public health, community legal service, improve justice, increase food security & awareness build up about the natural disaster & adaptation-mitigation etc. The aims of the overall projects are to promote decentralized and sustainable facilities through increasing the capacity of the hard-to-reach marginalized community and creating their access to basic health services, public health (HIV/AIDS prevention) awareness, to ensure community legal service and improve justice (Human rights & Good Governance) services, to increase food security for poverty reduction, to concern about the disaster risk & reduction for the excluded or deprived people in the vulnerable area.

At present, Light House is working in 23 districts of 5 divisions of Bangladesh. Light House’s strategic areas of works includes (i) Health, Nutrition & Population Sector (ii) Governance, Human Rights and Justice Sector (iii) Poverty reduction and Sustainable Livelihood (iv) Environment and Climate Change.

Vision: A society, where all the people, irrespective of their ethnicity, age, economic status and sexual identity, can enjoy a healthy life with dignity.

Mission
The Mission of Light House is to serve the socially and economically less privileged people in Bangladesh, who are deprived of health care facilities, nutrition and income generating opportunities, justice; governance, and are vulnerable to climate change effects. The organization works with both supply and demand sides, emphasizing on capacity building training and support the community people for ensuring useinternet and online platform and sustainable ICT solutions / services that meet the need of the targeted beneficiaries and facilitating accessibility to and availability of required services and products.
Broad objectivesLight House is committed to strengthening local justice systems including access to justice of marginal population. The organization too pursues the need to improving and developing its services to empower our target groups .We are also committed to working towards the fight against HIV/AIDS to prevent the epidemic in Bangladesh.
